Bellevue School District's Lilia Kol
“Mrs. Kol doesn’t like boys!” Is what my son’s friends told me when I originally asked about her. What an inauspicious introduction to this wonderful lady. For years, her “peach packets” have been feared by her students and revered by parents and educators that could see the shallowness of the Bellevue School District’s Elementary and Middle School math curricula. These peach packets that she has developed year after year by hand, are absolute genius! They add depth and synthesis to the raw skills that kids are learning.
Well, it turns out that we’re not the only ones that value her contribution to our children’s education, the MAA – AMC (Mathematical Association of America – American Mathematics Competition) has awarded her the Sliffe award. If you ask me, she’s the best thing in math since Mr. Goecke (my own middle school math teacher!!)!
Oh, and for the record, she has a son and actually LOVES boys!!!
