A friend just sent me this info on a Disney sponsored grant for voluntary public service projects by kids 5-14. It’s a little late unless you already ahve something in the works but, for next year, I hope that someone can utilize this:

Grant Overview
Youth Service America (YSA) and Disney know that youth of all ages can be involved in volunteer service projects. Children can solve community problems by working with their families, schools, friends, and neighbors. Join in the global youth service movement, and make a difference in your area. Grants of up to USD500 are available to support youth-led service projects taking place during the months of September – November 2009. Become a part of the global youth service movement. See the map and projects from all over the world on the GYSD 2009 map.

What are the grant guidelines?
Projects MUST be implemented by the children themselves. Projects should be age-appropriate and involve no less than 20 volunteers. We encourage and welcome projects where children work with older youth and adults (parents, coaches, teachers, etc.), but remember, this is an opportunity for children to lead. See the most recent list of Disney grantees and their project descriptions . We will support projects that address the following six issue areas: Poverty/Hunger, Education, Environment, Global Citizenship, Sustainable Community Development, and Disaster Prevention & Relief. For more information on these issue areas, visit the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

Applications are accepted from all over the world. Applicants from India, China, and Russia are especially encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted in English only.
